Howard A. Balsam
Counsel
Howard is a civil litigator whose practice, for over 20 years, has focused mainly on holding tortfeasors accountable while maximizing compensation for clients who have suffered as accident victims of negligence across construction, automobile, and premises liability.
Howard’s strong reputation and thriving practice are the result of his many client victories. Howard is tireless in his dedication and passion for in-court advocacy, often all the way to trial, when fighting for injury victims. Howard’s clients have never wondered whether their attorney truly cares about their case, because he takes his clients' fights seriously, so the results he achieves and clients' satisfaction speak for themselves.
Howard’s view of his role as counselor and advisor is simple, and arises out of his commitment to justice: “Fighting for the little guy against large corporate defendants is more than just my job, it’s my passion and purpose.”
During law school, Howard cut his teeth at New York’s preeminent plaintiff’s firm, Schneider Kleinick Weiss Damashek Shoot. Thereafter, Howard's immersive, unique litigation experience enabled resilience, confidence, grit and fortitude. Howard conducted his first jury trial the day after he was admitted to the New York State bar; on this day he realized his passion for courtroom advocacy and has pursued it relentlessly ever since.
Over the following decades, Howard built a practice serving a vast network of his devoted clients, expanding his practice areas to include commercial and real estate litigation, and has advised clients on numerous transactional matters. His clients include real estate owners and developers, professional athletes, other attorneys, blue-collar workers and day laborers, and his personal injury caseload is also diverse. Owing to Howard's learning opportunities and experiences, he is a learned advocate who can synthesize complex litigation issues and understands various practice areas to the benefit of his many clients.
In 2008, Howard founded US Legal Fund, one of the first pre-settlement funding companies, where he created an opportunity to level the playing field for victims of personal injuries. Through Howard’s oversight, US Legal Fund loaned tens of millions of dollars to injured litigants unable to work or earn an income during the pendency of their case, ensuring that they, too, can have their day in court without facing financial ruin along the way.
Despite his busy schedule Howard finds the time to pursue his passions for gardening, cooking, and travel photography. His priorities are family and friends, and the meaningful service of his clients.
