Michael S. Farber

Michael is a founding partner of Farber Schneider Ferrari LLP whose practice involves complex commercial transactions and business litigation in New York's State and Federal courts and tribunals. Michael is guided by the notion that reputation is the cornerstone of success, and that an attorney's degree of care is reflected in both personal interactions and work product.

His clientele spans a wide range of businesses, from real estate developers to construction and design fabrication companies, hospitality groups, general contractors, licensed design professionals and all manner of creatives, where Michael manages intellectual property licensing in various spheres on behalf of fashion and apparel artists, brands, their designers or creative directors, providing counsel on several legal issues at the intersection of art, commerce and entertainment. Michael also regularly provides counsel to hundreds of NYC restaurateur businesses and counsels parties to complex landlord-tenant transactions and litigation.

Michael also counsels various privately held or family-owned corporations with valuable real estate holdings, and serves as outside general counsel for brands, creative directors, studio artists and designers of all stripe.

Michael formerly served as General Counsel to a family-owned real property portfolio of over 200 mixed-use Manhattan properties, acting as personal counsel to that company's principals.

Earlier in his career Michael structured the in-house legal department for a major developer, overseeing the residential (housing) litigation of its major New York City holdings, a role in which he managed the court proceedings for Omni, a national property developer focused on the acquisition, rehabilitation, construction and management of revitalized affordable housing.

Michael formerly served on the litigation support team in the landmark, billion-dollar toxic tort litigation arising out of the September 11th, 2001 first-responder suits, where he managed voluminous discovery on behalf of an Am-Law 100 firm.

During law school, Michael completed the rigorous clinical coursework of the U.S. Attorney's Office (Eastern District of New York), working closely with Federal prosecutors on major RICO, narcotic and wire fraud prosecutions. Also during law school, Michael operated his own apparel business, while managing musical and studio artists, content creators and designers.

As an experienced courtroom litigator, Michael balances a tactical approach tempered by a strong emotional quotient. Michael particularly enjoys trial practice and jury selection, and is adept at balancing conscientious, aggressive representation with sound business judgment.

Michael was raised in Queens, NYC, graduating from the Bronx High School of Science, SUNY at Buffalo (B.A., Psychology), and Brooklyn Law School. He resides in Westchester County with his wife and children.
